Pizza Lovers, this blog post is just for YOU! If you love pizza, knowing how your pizza is made and what the ingredients are, keep reading. I am a lover for all things homemade. However, don’t get me wrong, I do indulge every now and then for food on the go but I have an appreciation for homemade food.
Below, you will find a video of the homemade pizza you are going to learn to make in this post! Exciting, right?
Pizza Dough Recipe Ingredients:
- 1 1/2 cup warm water (110 degrees F)
- 2 teaspoon granulated sugar
- 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast or instant yeast (1 packet)
- 3 1/2 to 4 cups Bread Flour (455 g to 520 g)
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 2 teaspoons salt
Not sure what flour to use? I would recommend Bread Flour, that always creates the best dough. It gives the crust a crispier crunch to it than all purpose flour. My favorite is King Arthur Bread Flour to make a great quality pizza dough.
How to make Pizza Dough:
- Combine warm water, yeast, and sugar into a large bowl. If you are using active dry yeast, you will need to let your yeast proof for 5 minutes -or- until it starts to get foamy before you add your flour, salt, and olive oil. If you are using instant yeast, you can add the flour, salt, and olive oil immediately.
- Stir together with a dough hook or wooden spoon until everything starts to come together, then knead for 5 minutes using a stand mixer with a dough hook attachment or by turning the dough on a lightly floured surface and kneading for 6-7 minutes by hand until the dough is smooth and elastic. The texture should be tacky, but not to sticky that it is difficult to work with. If it is seeming too sticky, add a little extra flour (1-2 tablespoon at a time).
- Transfer your dough to a clean, large bowl with 1-2 tablespoons of olive oil. Turn the dough to coat it in the oil, then cover the bowl with plastic wrap and place it in the fridge for up to 3 days (only if you are making ahead of time) or let it rise for at least 30 minutes or up to 1 1/2 hours until it has doubled in size. Feel free to use this time to grab your ingredients, for your pizza (cheese, pizza sauce, chop veggies).
- Preheat your oven to 500 degrees F (or as 475, if that is the highest your oven goes) for at least 30 minutes to an hour while the dough is rising.
- When the dough has risen, divide it into 2-3 evenly sized balls (depending on the amount of pizzas you will make). Dust each ball lightly with a little flour. Now we are ready to pat or roll out the dough into whatever shape your heart desires. We usually do circle or square shaped pizzas. Once you have shaped and stretched/rolled your dough, it is time for the fun part, the toppings!
- Top each dough with about 1/4 to 1/2 cup of sauce (to your liking) (this sauce would be either pizza sauce, white sauce, or your sauce of choice).
- Next, add cheese and your toppings just the way you like it.
- You will bake for 5-10 minutes. Your cheese on the top should be melted and the crust should turn a golden brown color around the edges. Again, this time will vary depending on your oven, the thickness or your pizza and how many toppings you have. It’s better to start on the lower end and gradually increase the time.
- Once it’s done, ENJOY! 🙂
